Jason Donkervoort shares why the ROM is his family's favourite place to visit.

How often do you visit the ROM?

We visit at least twice a month.

What inspired your first visit to the ROM?

The kids. They wanted to see the dinosaurs, especially the Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibition.

If you could bring one person to visit the ROM with you, who would it be?

Wyatt always wants to bring his sister Emma, while Emma wants to bring her pretend friend. I think they just love sharing the experience!

What word would you use to describe your experience at the ROM?

Exciting!

What do you consider the greatest benefit of your ROM Membership?

Shorter and more frequent visits to the ROM.

Are there specific places in the Museum you find yourself coming back to visit?

There are three favourite spots for the kids: the dinosaur galleries, the biodiversity area, and the Bat Cave!

Is there a favourite object in the Museum that stands out to you as something you would like to have in your own home?

Wyatt would like to have the entire T. rex skeleton, with the augmented reality unit and the screen, so he can watch himself on the screen. Both kids want to have the Challenge of Mining game table in the geology area.

How would you describe the ROM to a friend who had never visited the ROM before?

The Museum has such a diverse collection; you will always find something new and interesting to learn about.

If you were to plan a perfect day, what would you plan to do before and after your time spent at the ROM?

It would be a meal at Shogun Restaurant, the Museum, and then a stroll along Philosopher’s Walk, with a coffee.

Have you had any experiences at the ROM that we haven’t asked about?

When Wyatt recently filled up his ROM Explorers passport, he got the chance to go behind the scenes. We visited the rock collection and mineral lab. It was amazing to see a part of the Museum we never get to see. Taking him was exciting for me as well; I had never had an opportunity like that before, and I have been a big fan of the Museum since I was young.
