A Media Preview was held today at the ROM for the exhibition Carnival: From Emancipation to Celebration, presented in partnership with the Scotiabank Toronto Caribbean Carnival. Journalists were the first to see the exhibition, opening to the public on Saturday.

Guests enjoyed delicious Caribbean-themed food followed by opening remarks by Dan Rahimi, Vice President Gallery Development, who noted how pleased the ROM is to collaborate with Scotiabank Toronto Caribbean Carnival for the fifth consecutive year.

Silvia Forni, ROM Curator, spoke about the extensive preparation of the exhibition. Jane Nokes, Director, Corporate Archives and Fine Arts, Scotiabank Group and Denise Herrera Jackson, CEO, Carnival Festival Management Committee rounded out the event’s speakers.

Brian Mac Farlane, the exhibit’s featured artist who created the vibrant costumes on display, joined the event via a video message due to his present commitments in London, England for the Olympic Games!

Media spent time viewing the artwork and photographs in the Hilary and Galen Weston Wing on Level 2, concluding their morning in Hyacinth Gloria Chen Court with a viewing of Mac Farlane’s spectacular costume creations. The exhibition runs until February 2013.
