Meet YPC Committee Member Dimitrios Mastoras

What is your occupation?
I work for BMO Global Asset Management educating and coaching financial advisors on how to best grow their practice and help their clients achieve what’s important to them.

What was the last book you read?
Flash Boys by Michael Lewis, the same author as Moneyball, The Blind Side and The Big Short. It’s a look inside the evolving technology of investing and the world of high frequency trading on Wall Street.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
One of my favourite bands is U2 and I loved their 90s Achtung Baby album. I was in high school and listening to those songs brings back great memories including my first live concert, seeing them at the old CNE stadium. The one song would have to be Ultraviolet (Light my Way).

Where is your favourite place in the world?
Santorini, Greece! It’s just magical. The white buildings against the blue sky and blue ocean are just iconic images of Greece. The sunsets are a spectacle and just breathtaking.

Why did you join YPC?
My colleague Denise McEachern who was a YPC Ambassador invited me to an event and I was hooked. I had a wonderful time meeting new people and listening to experts over a glass of wine. We live nearby so the opportunity to walk into the ROM anytime with my children and to financially support something that was part of my own childhood meant a lot to me as well.

What do you like best about being a Young Patron of the ROM?
The perks of “behind the scenes” access with the vault tours and sneak peaks of new exhibitions are really cool and I love telling my friends what’s coming up at the ROM! I also like to mingle with other members, share stories and ROM experiences, and meet new people.

Describe the ROM in one word.
Infinite.

Tell us one of your favourite ROM memories.
One of the main reasons I joined was to have my two children grow up with the ROM so one of my favourite memories was our first ROM Holiday party. The kids made ROM-related crafts, met Santa and interacted with curators with artifacts the kids could touch and learn about. Seeing their little faces as they touched a dinosaur fossil was very special.

What do you love most about the ROM?
Even though I may visit the same galleries or exhibits over and over, I always see or learn something that I hadn’t noticed or seen all the previous times.

If you could have anything from the ROM’s collections, what would you choose?
I was obsessed with knights and medieval times when I was little so a full suit of armour and sword would be pretty awesome!
