Going for Gold

Panathenaic Amphora, Attic Black-Figure (earthenware), Archaic period, Attica, Greece, 525 - 500 BC

Ready, Set, GO Team Canada! To celebrate the Olympic season, join classical archaeologist, Dr. Kate Cooper as we time-travel to visit the original site of the Olympics. Uncover the ancient origins of the Olympic games and where they were first held, learn all about the mythology that surrounds the games, and find out which sports were popular in the past. Get to know the fascinating traditions of the original game, the customs that are contemporary creations, and discover what prizes Olympians used to win (hint: it wasn't a gold medal). Make your own discus and compete in some Olympic feats of your own or create your own amphora-inspired scratch art!
