Royal Ontario Museum expands its online presence with ROM at Home

TORONTO, May 11, 2020 – While the doors of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) remain temporarily closed, audiences can explore and experience the Museum online with the launch of ROM at Home. Accessible through the ROM’s home page and across the Museum’s online channels, ROM at Home opens the doors to the Museum with virtual gallery tours, educational resources and activities, magazine articles, and live video interactions with ROM curators and educators

Highlights of ROM at Home include:

ROM Storytime: A Live YouTube series running every Tuesday at 11:00 am with ROM Educator Sarah Elliot. This engaging series invites viewers young and old to read along on-screen with story book themes based on the Museum’s collections and exhibitions, including Winnie-the Pooh: Exploring a Classic. Each reading will be followed by a live Q&A on how the stories connect to ROM objects, plus a story-inspired creative activity.    

Ask ROM Anything: An interactive series on the ROM’s Instagram. Tune in every Thursday at 10 am to see a ROM expert answering viewers’ burning questions.

ROM Around You: The everyday things around us are more fascinating than you think. Explore art, culture and nature with ROM Teacher Julie Tomé as she shares a new theme every Monday at 11 am in an educational video and a ROM-inspired hands-on activity. Then, take on the curiosity challenge yourself to discover more about the objects in your home, backyard and neighbourhood.  

Explore the ROM: Take a peek inside the Museum’s cabinets with over 47,000 objects available in the ROM’s online collections. •

Magazine Features: ROM Magazine brings to life some of the Museum’s fascinating stories. These articles offer an in-depth look into exhibitions, research and collections. With more content added regularly, ROM at Home enables audiences to explore the world through the lens of art, culture and nature from the comfort of their home. Audiences can stay up to date on new content and experiences as they are added by checking the ROM’s social media channels regularly.
