Lessons for Ontario students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are taught by Museum Educators. Lessons may take place entirely in the galleries, or they may move between the galleries and a classroom containing hands-on objects or belongings from the extensive teaching collections at ROM. Each lesson is 1-hour long. Lessons are available to book from September to June.

Indigenous Guided Lessons are taught by Indigenous Museum Educators and take place entirely in galleries. During select lessons, Indigenous Museum Educators will bring touchable belongings from the teaching collections to share with students. Each visit is a unique experience – Museum Educators’ lessons and stories vary as team members represent diverse Indigenous Nations from across Turtle Island.

In addition to the two Guided Lessons offered, Indigenous Perspectives Throughout ROM and Indigenous Inventions, Innovations, and Creativity, the team offers specialty themed programming centered around days, weeks, or months of importance throughout the year. Free French School Visits

French schools are eligible for free admission to ROM on the dates below:

                November 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, and 20, 2026

French School Visit days are offered annually -  dates may differ from year to year - and registration is required. Signing up for the School Visits enewsletter is the best way to receive updates about special annual opportunities.

Inquiring about a visit from an out of province or post-secondary school, adult or corporate group, or just a group visit on a weekend or holiday? ROM’s Group Sales team is ready to help you with your visit, offering several customizable options for viewing our galleries and exhibitions.

If you have not booked a visit since June 2025, you will need to register for an account before you can make a booking. Account creation may take up to 24 hours (longer on weekends and holidays) after submitting your registration request. Once your account details are reviewed and approved, you will receive an email inviting you to set a password and start booking.

Registration & Booking notes:

• A minimum of 15 students and 2 adults are required to register for a school visit. 
• Most guided visits have a maximum of 35 people (students & adults).
• Self-guided visits have a maximum of 150 people (students & adults).
• All bookings must be made online at least 10 business days in advance.
• Availability displayed online is in real-time, based on existing bookings in our system and daily capacity.

Payment Information

• Upon booking, you’ll receive an invoice/booking confirmation by email. This is not a receipt.
• Please include your invoice/reservation number on all payments and communications.
• Payment is due on arrival via cash, cheque (payable to Royal Ontario Museum), debit, or credit card.
• Purchase orders must be arranged in advance and paid within 30 days of the visit date.
• Membership benefits cannot be applied to school visits. 
• All payments are non-refundable. 
• If paying by cheque, please ensure the amount is exact, as overpayments cannot be reimbursed or credited.

Changes to the:

• visit date
• type of visit
• number of visitors (if adding or subtracting 5 or more students and/or adults to your group total*)

must be received by email at schoolv@rom.on.ca at least 10 business days prior to the scheduled visit.

*If you are adding or removing fewer than 5 people from your group total, change requests can be accommodated on arrival.

We understand that unexpected delays may occur; however, late arrivals will result in shortened or cancelled programs. In the event of a delay, notification is required at schoolv@rom.on.ca or 416-586-5801. 

Notification of cancellation must be received by email at schoolv@rom.on.ca at least 15 business days prior to the scheduled visit. Cancellations received after this period will be charged a cancellation fee equivalent to the minimum 15-student charge per group.

Failure to show up for a visit is considered a cancellation.

Cancellations due to extreme weather, school-board bus cancellations, or verified transportation failure on the day of the visit are exempt from cancellation fees. We follow school board or municipal service announcements to determine eligibility for weather or transportation-related exemptions. If your school is experiencing exceptional circumstances (e.g., sudden school closure, transit disruption, safety alert), please notify us as soon as possible so we can work with you to find the best solution.

Groups are encouraged to bring as many teachers/supervisors (adults) as needed to ensure that children are safe and well supervised. To facilitate this, the School Visits program offers 1 adult free for every 1 student attending.

Please check your board/organization's supervision requirements or aim for our recommended minimum supervision ratios:

• Kindergarten to Grade 3 (Age 9 and younger): 1 adult per 5 children
• Grade 4 to Grade 8 (Ages 10 to 13): 1 adult per 10 children
• Grade 9 to Grade 12 (Age 14 and older): 1 adult per 15 youth

Children 13-years-old/Grade 8 and younger must be supervised by adults at all times. Unsupervised children will be removed from the galleries by ROM Security until their adult supervisors can be located.

Youth 14-years-old/Grade 9 and older may tour galleries without direct supervision. Teachers/supervisors are responsible for their students' conduct, and are encouraged to circulate between groups to ensure students are supported in their independent learning and following Museum guidelines

School groups must enter through the President’s Choice School Entrance.

This Entrance is located on the south side of ROM, down a short flight of stairs between the Museum and the former planetarium. A ramp is also available for accessibility needs.

During University of Toronto construction, you may notice scaffolding, construction equipment, and some noise during weekday morning hours. Directional signage will be in place to guide your group safely to the entrance.
 

By Bus

Buses can drop students off in the bus lane on Queen’s Park. This drop-off area is close to the President’s Choice School Entrance.

Once students have disembarked, buses can follow City of Toronto guidelines on bus and coach parking.

By Subway

Yonge-University Subway Line (Line 1)

Museum Station

Museum Station is the closest subway stop to ROM on either line. The north end of the station exits on the sidewalk in front of the President’s Choice School Entrance. It is currently accessible by stairs only.

Bloor-Danforth Subway Line (Line 2)

Bay Station

The west end of Bay station is the closest subway entrance to ROM on this line. It is accessible by stairs only. Exit the station via the west end of the platform. Walk west on Cumberland Street and south on Avenue Road / Queen’s Park to the President’s Choice School Entrance.

Approximate walk time: 5 minutes

St. George Station

St. George Station is currently the closest accessible subway stop to ROM. It also features an interchange that will allow your class the option of travelling south one stop to Museum Station. St. George Station is fully accessible with elevators to street level at the Bedford Road entrance.

Walk east on Bloor Street and south on Queen’s Park to the President’s Choice School Entrance.

Approximate walk time: 10 minutes

Please note that some services may need at least three weeks advance notice.

Lunch Room (Level 1B East, President's Choice School Entrance Hallway): 30-minute lunch slots are assigned upon arrival, if requested. Lunch times are based on scheduled activities and the age-level of groups attending.

Druxy’s ROM Café (Level 1B West): Available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that outside food is not allowed, and food purchased there must be consumed there. Groups of over 50 should consider staggering eating times.

Children 13-years-old/Grade 8 and younger must be supervised in both food areas.

Food and drink are not permitted in the galleries.
