Museum Guidelines
Walk. Don't Run.
This makes sure that all the objects, belongings, and visitors at ROM stay safe.
Use indoor voices.
Many learners share the Museum. It’s important for everyone to be able to hear their teachers and each other.
If a Museum Educator is giving a lesson in the gallery, be careful not to disrupt it.
Only touch things that are clearly marked as safe to touch
Your skin contains oils that can damage objects over time. This is why we usually don’t touch anything in the Museum unless there is a clear sign inviting you to touch it.
In the Hands-on Galleries, be sure to follow the instructions of the Facilitators on how to safely and respectfully interact with the objects.
Eat and drink only in the cafeteria or the Lunch Room. Not the galleries.
Food and drink is not permitted in the galleries at the Museum. Even tiny amounts of food left in the galleries can attract pests that can seriously damage the objects.
If you brought a lunch or snacks, you can enjoy them in the Lunch Room on Level 1B East.
Remember that the objects in the galleries are real, and it’s up to all of us to make sure that they stay safe.
Photos are great!
Photos are allowed unless a sign indicates otherwise. Look for “no flash” signs around sensitive objects or live animals.
If you’re with a Museum Educator in a lesson, ask for their photo policy first.
Ask questions and have fun!
You’ll meet many staff members and volunteers around the Museum. They wear ROM uniforms or a ROM lanyard with an ID badge.
All of the staff and volunteers welcome questions and are happy to help you get the most out of your Museum visit.
