Panelists

Peter Brand | Henry's (Moderator)

Dr. Burton Lim | Assistant Curator of Mammalogy, ROM

Born and raised in Toronto, Burton received a PhD in Zoology from the University of Toronto and has conducted fieldwork in 28 countries, primarily in tropical regions. His research interests are in the biodiversity and evolution of mammals with a specialization in bats. To document the diversity of bats, he does macrophotography in the field to zoom into fine details of the faces to help in species identification. His photos have been used in scientific papers, books, and magazine articles.

Mark Peck | Technician, Birds, ROM

Mark Peck is an award-winning wildlife and nature photographer. As the Ornithology Technician at ROM's Department of Natural History, he assists with fieldwork, exhibitions, and the ornithology collection. He serves as the ROM liaison for the Ontario Bird Records Committee, and as a consultant for Ontario Birds / Ontario Field Ornithologists. He is also the Program Councillor for the Toronto Ornithological Club and a Regional Coordinator for the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas.

Dr. Soren Brothers | Allan and Helaine Shiff Curator of Climate Change, ROM

Born and raised in southern Ontario, Soren holds degrees in Biology and a PhD in Limnology (magna cum laude). As a limnologist (one who studies inland aquatic ecosystems, like our own Great Lakes) he researches the effects of climate change on lakes, and how they can help us better understand and predict global climate change “tipping points”*. He believes we are entering a moment of positive ecological awareness – a new tipping point – where constructive change will keep us moving forward, restoring more balance to our planet’s ecosystems. In addition, he curates the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Museum, showcasing the intersection between art and nature.
