About

As part of the Toronto International Film Festival's Future Projections series, the ROM is pleased to present two unique film installations. When The Gods Came Down To Earth, by Toronto filmmaker Srinivas Krishna, combines images of ancient Hindu mythology with modern mass media techniques, and runs day and night on the ROM’s exterior Bloor Street plaza. The Butcher's Shop, by filmmaker Philip Haas, is an intimate 7-minute film that recreates a Renaissance-era painting on one screen, and imagines the painter’s artistic process on another screen; it will play inside the ROM.

When the Gods Came Down to Earth Film installation by Srinivas Krishna ROM Plaza, Free The ICC, in collaboration with TIFF’s Future Projections program, presents a new work by acclaimed director Srinivas Krishna, featuring beautiful filmed vignettes of several Hindu gods, combined with special effects and animation, and an original musical score. The piece will run day and night outside the ROM for the duration of TIFF.

The Butcher’s Shop Film installation by Philip Haas Spirit House, Level 1, Free On two large screens, a narrative unfolds inside a butcher’s shop in Bologna, Italy, circa 1582. On one screen is the scene shown in the painting; on the other is the opposite side of the shop, where Carracci has set up an easel to paint the two butchers at work. Philip Haas’ film is a meditation on Carracci’s painting, work and life, and the depiction of meat and human flesh in art. It runs for the full duration of TIFF during regular museum hours.
