TORONTO, Sept. 28, 2021 – Amid the national reckoning over residential schools, Indigenous leaders have urged Canadians to heed the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action.
In the words of Gimaa Stacey Laforme of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, “I encourage everyone to do their part by educating themselves, which starts with reading the 94 Calls to Action. This day is all about education, about creating events that provoke thought, about keeping the memory of our children alive. Have meaningful conversations, take part in events such as a walk to remember, do something to remember the children in your own way.”
To honour Chief Laforme’s message, on September 30, ROM staff and volunteers will observe the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with an outdoor reading of the 94 Calls to Action.
Outside the Museum on the Helga and Mike Schmidt Performance Terrace, each of the 94 Calls to Action will be displayed and read aloud by members of ROM staff and volunteers from 12 pm to 3 pm.
What: ROM employees and volunteers will read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action on the Museum’s outdoor Performance Terrace. Each of the Calls to Action will displayed on large LED screens on the Terrace.
When: Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, from 12 pm to 3 pm.
