Back by popular demand, this festive day trip offers a full day of art, food, theatre, and holiday tradition in the scenic Headwaters area surrounding Orangeville, Ontario. The morning begins at the historic Alton Mill Arts Centre, a beautifully restored 19th-century stone mill that has become a vibrant centre for the arts. We’ll visit the Headwaters Arts Gallery in the Centre and have an opportunity to explore the mill's artist studios, meet local artists, view works in progress, and browse and shop for original artworks and handcrafted items (the collection of locally made art, jewellery, ceramics, and other handcrafted pieces gives the morning some of the appeal of a small, intimate One of a Kind-style show).
From Alton, the group will continue to nearby Orangeville for lunch at Craft Pizza Bar & Italian Kitchen for a delicious lunch of authentic Italian food. Then we cross the road to Theatre Orangeville for a matinee performance of Aladdin: A Lad in Dufferin County, the theatre’s homegrown take on the traditional holiday pantomime. Pantomime combines familiar storytelling with comedy, music, audience participation and plenty of local references, making it a lively and engaging theatre experience. Theatre Orangeville’s intimate setting adds to the occasion and provides an opportunity to enjoy professional regional theatre as part of a relaxed day out.
Following the performance, the day concludes with a visit to Christmas in the Park, an annual celebration of the holiday season. Created by community volunteers, the “Park” (Kay Cee Gardens) is transformed with colourful Christmas lights and illuminated displays. Arriving as daylight fades, take a stroll through the festive outdoor setting and experience one of Orangeville’s much-loved community traditions before returning home.
What makes this trip particularly memorable is the variety of experiences woven into a single day. Rather than being centred on one attraction, the day progresses naturally from viewing visual art by local working artists, to a delicious lunch at a charming restaurant, to live theatre, and finally to the festive glow of a community Christmas celebration. There is time to discover, shop, dine, laugh and enjoy the season with good company.

Be Prepared
- Activities will proceed in bad weather. The only component affected will be Christmas in the park, but this is designed as an outdoor winter activity. Tours are conducted rain or shine.
- The pathways of the park are maintained but there is still the unevenness that comes with being in a natural setting as opposed to flat pavement. If there is snow on the ground, it may be slippery, etc. The indoor venues are all accessible with elevators.
- There are seats at the coffee area of the Art gallery if people want to rest. There are few seats in the local park; if participants opt out of this or don't want to walk, they are best to remain on the coach.
