À propos

Walk with us in the Necropolis, where the living and the dead meet and Toronto’s past comes vividly alive. This historic cemetery – Toronto’s oldest - tells the stories of the rebels, soldiers, politicians, artists, and everyday citizens who shaped the city, offering a window into lives that helped define Toronto’s character.

Along the way, learn about remarkable individuals such as journalist and rebel leader William Lyon Mackenzie, Father of Confederation George Brown, Thornton Blackburn, who founded Toronto’s first hackney cab company, and Albert Jackson, Canada’s first Black postman. Hear also the poignant stories of Hannah Horseman, who died in childbirth, and the four young Ward sisters who drowned in Toronto Harbour, whose brother later became a local hero. Each grave and monument uncovers a chapter of the city’s rich and sometimes surprising history.
