Uncover a hidden kingdom in this afternoon workshop designed to introduce the diversity and ecology of mushrooms and other fungi, and the profound ways in which humans engage with them.

Occupying almost every habitat on the planet, fungi are animatic organisms that play crucial roles in their – and our – environments . From food to medicine, they also impact human culture in significant ways. Led by mycologists Sara Scharf and Simona Margaritescu, spend your afternoon with specimens in the permanent galleries and classrooms, learningboth the biological and culture significance of fungi.

This workshop includes an introduction to the exhibition Psychedelics: Art.Culture.Science.

Sara Scharf

Sara Scharf est titulaire d'un doctorat en histoire et philosophie de la taxonomie biologique et occupe actuellement le poste de vice-présidente de la Société mycologique de Toronto. Elle aime partager sa passion pour les champignons, qu'elle considère à la fois comme des agents écologiques et comme des sujets photographiques.

Simona Margaritescu

Simona Margaritescu estspécialiste des collections mycologiques au ROM. Diplômée en biologie et en génétique de l'université de Bucarest, elle a enseigné la systématique végétale, mené des travaux de terrain et étudié les microchampignons. Au ROM, elle s'occupe des collections fongiques, encadre des étudiants, répond aux demandes du public et apporte son soutien à la recherche moléculaire.
