Patricia Harris, a founding member of the Textile Endowment Fund which later became Friends of Textiles & Costume, has played many roles during her long commitment to the ROM. She has served on the board of the DMV, was Chair of the Docents and was elected to the ROM Board of Trustees for two terms. Patricia continues as honorary trustee.
In 1978, during ROM renovations, Patricia and other ROM Docents began the ROM Speakers' Bureau which took slide presentations about textiles to interested groups in Ontario. In 1999, she received the ultimate Christmas gift from her husband Bill, the naming of a specific gallery for textiles and costumes in her honour. In 2008 The Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles & Costume opened to the public.
