About

Mindfulness Month at ROM

This April, ROM invites you to take part in two different mindfulness program series designed to offer space for reflection, presence, and deeper engagement with the Museum. Each program will run three separate sessions throughout the month. One series focuses on mindful engagement with cultural and natural collections, while the other examines mindfulness through the Museum’s architectural spaces. If you’re curious to experience mindfulness in an interactive and refreshing way, and you have an interest in art, culture, nature, architecture, and mental health, we invite you to join us at ROM this April.

Mindful Spaces: A Creative Journey through ROM Architecture offers a different entry point into mindfulness by focusing on how architectural environments shape our inner experience.

The architecture of the Museum is exquisite. It spans Neo-Romanesque, Deconstructivist, Neo-Byzantine, Art Deco, and Modernist styles, with some spaces combining multiple designs and elements.

On this mindfulness journey, participants will be led through four unique and stunning architectural locations in the Museum. Locations that spark a sense of awe, curiosity, and beauty. Participants will be creatively guided on how to connect to their senses in each location, and then to their own personal inner world. Leaning into carefully selected themes, and allowing personal associations and meaningful memories to emerge, participants will explore how architecture, their senses, and their own creativity can nourish a mindfulness awareness, allow for grounding, and inspire self-discovery.

The program will culminate with participants being led through a creative visualization to find their own inner sanctuary, and time to share their reflections or create an art piece to take home and remember the experience.
