Start the school year off right! Introducing the first of our Monthly Museum Minecraft Sessions: Building Community.

ROM is undergoing some BIG changes. The Open ROM project aims to transform the museum into a community hub and gathering place, and it’s inspired us to do our own community projects in Minecraft.

Students will choose a community space that’s important to them, or that they wish they had, and use Minecraft to either modify it to work better, or to imagine something completely new. Our instructors will model techniques by modifying community spaces of their own alongside your students. Students can also use our communication form to suggest improvements or request tutorials from the instructors.

This lesson will require minimal familiarity with Minecraft and will introduce some useful tips and building techniques to your students.

Can’t attend live? No problem! In this special YouTube Live Format, you’ll be able to pause and play the lesson to go at the pace that’s right for your students. If you can’t attend live, you can still follow along with the recording through the link you’ll receive when you book.

Explore solutions to make sure everyone's needs are supported in a community space.

Use technology to demonstrate how we could change an existing community space for the better.

French Classes

While the virtual lessons only offered in English for now, you can follow this tutorial to translate the game language into French. We hope to be able to offer French versions of the virtual lessons and bring a fully localized version of the world online in the near future.

Preparation

Preparation:
In the days before the lesson, we recommend that you have a discussion with your students about what community spaces they would like to update, or that they would like to see in their community.

New to Minecraft?
We recommend that students are familiar with the basic Minecraft controls taught in the How to Play tutorials in the Minecraft Lesson Library, particularly:
