Walk on the Moon at the ROM

ROM launches first Space Expedition Weekend as part of Spring Family Fun Days

Families can expect to be star struck as the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) launches it’s first ever Space Expedition Weekend on Saturday, May 5 to Sunday, May 6, included with general admission.

Explore the wonders of outer space as you hold an authentic space rock (meteorite), walk on a piece of the moon and learn the latest in space exploration. Hear how the stars and planets have played a part in the history of cultures around the world and navigate the night sky in our mini-planetarium as you join us for a weekend that’s out of this world!

The sky is the limit in the Teck Suite of Galleries: Earth’s Treasures as visitors are able to stand above an actual piece of the moon. Be sure to bring your camera, this is a great photo op. Children will receive a badge of merit upon mission completion.

The ROM has one of the finest meteorite collections on public display in the world. Come and touch rocks from outer space, some over 4.5 billion years old, meteorites that are not typically on display. See whether you can tell the difference between a meteorite and a “meteor-wrong” as ROM and University scientists answer questions about meteorites, demonstrate the creation of a crater and even make a comet using dry ice.

Imagine worlds beyond our own as astronomers explain the phenomenon that is our universe. The weekend will have telescopes on display, provided by the Royal Astronomical Society, used by astronomers to explore the vast universe. Members of the Society will also be describing the upcoming “Transit of Venus” in June of this year when our sister world crosses the face of the Sun. The next opportunity to see such an event will not occur until the year 2117!

The Space Expedition Weekend is a part of Spring Family Fun Days at the ROM. Almost every weekend this spring, the ROM welcomes families for a variety of activities.

All programming is free with general admission or ROM membership. Upcoming weekends include:
