Join Robert Little, ROM Curator, Mona Campbell Curator for European Decorative Arts for this special tour of the exhibition Around 1914: Design in a New Age. Learn about the state of design and the decorative arts in the period leading up to 1914, the year the ROM was founded. There were many issues that designers were debating at this period including the shift in approach from arts and crafts to art and industry, how to accommodate good design to the demands of manufacturing processes, the turning away from design based on historical precedent to the search for new forms appropriate to an object's function and the materials with which it was made.
Please meet in Chen Court, Level 1 by the dinosaur for a brief welcome and introduction.
Tour begins promptly at 11 am so please check in and pick up your headsets prior to 11 am.
