About
Step back in time with a visit to St. Jacobs and Elmira, home to Canada’s largest Mennonite community. Learn about the Mennonites’ European roots and the enduring traditions of the Old Order, who live without electricity, travel by horse and buggy, and maintain a deeply rooted way of life grounded in pacifism, modesty, and separation from modern culture. A short film introduces their fascinating history, followed by time to explore the vibrant St. Jacobs Farmers' Market, the largest indoor-outdoor market in the country.
After a hearty, home-cooked Mennonite lunch—complete with freshly baked pie—we’ll venture into the surrounding countryside with a local guide who brings the community’s stories to life. Enjoy scenic views of traditional farms, schools, and meetinghouses, with a photo stop at the charming West Montrose Covered Bridge, affectionately known as the “Kissing Bridge.” We’ll finish our day with free time to browse the quaint shops and cafés of Elmira, soaking in the peaceful rhythm of this unique cultural enclave.
