Royal Ontario Museum Announces Andrew MacLeod as new Board of Trustees Chair
TORONTO, May 12, 2025 – The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) announced today the Order in Council appointment of Andrew MacLeod to Chair ROM’s Board of Trustees. MacLeod has served as a member of the Museum’s Board of Trustees since January 16, 2025, and will take the Chair for a 1-year term from May 2025 to May 2026. He succeeds Robert Chant, who served as Chair of the Board of Trustees from June 2023 to May 2025.
“I am delighted to welcome Andrew as the incoming Chair of ROM’s Board of Trustees,” says Josh Basseches, ROM Director & CEO. “With more than two decades of successful leadership driving growth and innovation, Andrew is a welcome addition to the Museum during this critical point in its ongoing evolution. In addition, I would like to thank our previous Chair, Robert Chant, who was instrumental in helping the Museum navigate past the pandemic period and successfully launch the transformational OpenROM project.”
MacLeod brings a wealth of media, communications, operations, and analytics leadership to this role. Since 2019, he has served as President and Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Postmedia Network Inc. Andrew joined Postmedia in 2014 as EVP and Chief Commercial Officer and assumed the role of President and Chief Operating Officer in 2017.
Prior to his tenure at Postmedia, MacLeod held several senior executive positions in the technology sector, including serving as the Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director of North America at BlackBerry.
In addition to Andrew’s many professional accomplishments, he has served the community as a Director on the Boards of Waterfront Toronto and Communitech and is currently the Chair of Invest Ontario.
“It’s a privilege to be a part of such an important institution,” MacLeod says. “I look forward to working with the Museum’s Board of Trustees, Governors, and our government stakeholders to deepen audience connections and continue to build an exciting future for ROM.”
MacLeod assumes his role at a pivotal time for the Museum with the landmark OpenROM revitalization project under construction, several innovative access initiatives launching, and a robust exhibition and programming schedule in place.
Recently recognized by The Art Newspaper as among the Top 10 most popular Museums in North America, ROM is well positioned to continue to build on its position as a vital cultural and community anchor in the heart of Toronto and a leading destination for visitors from Ontario and around the world.
ROM is an agency of the Government of Ontario. The Board of Trustees is the governing authority for the Museum, responsible for its policies, its operational continuity, and the collections and other assets which the Museum holds in trust for the people of Ontario. The Board consists of 21 Trustees – 15 provincially appointed, two ex-officio members, and four elected by ROM members. Trustees are volunteers who are dedicated to public service and ROM’s well-being and long-term stability.
