Remembering Hilary Weston

ROM is deeply saddened by the passing of The Honourable Hilary M. Weston, C.M., O.Ont.

A cherished member of the ROM community, Hilary Weston was a passionate advocate for culture and civic life in Canada. Through her tireless volunteerism, visionary leadership, and exceptional generosity, she helped shape the Museum into the institution it is today.

Hilary’s connection to ROM ran deep. As Chair of the Renaissance ROM Campaign, she led one of the most ambitious cultural fundraising efforts in Canadian history—mobilizing support, inspiring donors, and strengthening the Museum’s role as a dynamic hub of learning and discovery. She believed profoundly in the power of culture to transform lives and championed ROM as a place where learning and discovery could flourish.

Together with her husband, the late W. Galen Weston, O.C., C.V.O., O.Ont., and the Weston family, Hilary brought to life a bold vision for the Museum. Their extraordinary generosity is reflected in named spaces across the building, including the Weston Entrance, the Weston Family Wing, the Hilary and Galen Weston Wing, the Garfield Weston Exhibition Hall, the Reta Lila Weston Room, and the President’s Choice School Entrance—each a lasting symbol of their commitment to cultural excellence and accessibility.

Hilary Weston’s legacy is profound and enduring—not only at ROM, but across Canada. Her impact as a philanthropist, cultural leader, and devoted Canadian will continue to inspire generations to come.
