About this lesson

Honour Indigenous History Month by using Minecraft to visit an Indigenous community on the Pacific Northwest Coast and learn how to help the village prepare for winter.

Book now

Honour Indigenous History Month with this very special Minecraft world inspired by and built in consultation with the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation.

On arrival, students will learn how to approach the community as a respectful guest. Once invited by the Siyam, they will then learn traditional tasks from community Elders and Knowledge Carriers, and take these new skills into the surrounding forests, rivers, and oceans to help the community prepare for the coming winter.

Along the way, in-game teachings will be supported by real Indigenous Artistic and Cultural Belongings that currently reside at ROM.

Can’t attend live? No problem. In this special YouTube Live Format, you’ll be able to pause and play the lesson to go at the pace that’s right for your students. You can even watch the lesson on another day using the link you receive when you book.
