A green glazed ceramic Yizhou Luohan statue from the 10th century sits serenely at the gallery's entrance.
Smaller works complement the larger works, shedding light on the stylistic development of deities in Chinese religion, as well as of Judaism, Islam and Christianity in China from the 3rd to 19th centuries AD.
This three-metre tall marble standing Buddha from the late 6th century showcases the elegance of the larger works in the gallery.
The largest object in the collection doesn't fit in the gallery. The bronze figure of Vairocana Buddha, at almost 8 feet high and 5 feet wide, welcomes visitors in the Samuel Hall Currelly Gallery, also on Level 1.
