Introducing Druxy’s ROM Café

Fresh, Healthy and Affordable Menu for ROM Visitors

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) has confirmed DRUXY'S Famous Deli as its new service provider for the Museum cafeteria.  Druxy's ROM Café will officially open on June 21, 2013.

In addition to the sandwiches and salads that Druxy’s has become famous for, the menu at Druxy's ROM Café will be customized to complement the ROM’s changing programs in world culture and nature, featuring a variety of healthy and affordable menu items in keeping with Toronto’s diverse cultural landscape, and responding to a wide range of food preferences and dietary requirements. The Druxy's ROM Café menu will include global cuisine and provide vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and lactose free options.

“After a lengthy and detailed review process, the ROM Board is very pleased to confirm Druxy’s as the new Museum cafeteria service provider,” said Glenn Dobbin, ROM Deputy Director and COO.  “The newly developed Druxy's ROM Café will provide a wide range of fresh, healthy, affordable choices for the whole family.”

“We are dedicated to offering truly healthy food as demonstrated by our extensive menu of Health Check certified items”, said Peter Druxerman, VP Marketing, Druxy’s Inc.  “Being based on deli tradition, the quality and freshness of our menu items is unmatched by any fast food chain in the market. For this new venture, we will expand upon Druxy’s deli tradition to feature a wide range of options for ROM visitors.”

Druxy's ROM Café will feature Design Your Own Sandwiches and Salads with over 50 fresh toppings and a wide selection of soups, many that are part of the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Health Check program. The menu will be expanded to include an extensive grill menu with items such as fresh burgers, sausages and fries plus Pita and Naan based pizzas.

In keeping with the ROM’s commitment to provide the best possible value for ROM Members, Druxy's ROM Café will continue to honour the existing 10% ROM Members discount.

The ROM cafeteria has been known as Food Studio since 2007 and managed by Compass Group Canada, who recently determined to re-evaluate its food service operations at the Museum and terminated its agreement.  The ROM issued an RFP for a new restaurant operator to oversee the evaluation and selection process. The results showed that Druxy’s offered the best option for the ROM.   Food Studio will close on May 31, 2013 and reopen as Druxy’s ROM Café on June 21, 2013.  During a minor renovation of the venue from June 1 to 20, Druxy’s will operate a satellite food service café in the ROM’s Queen’s Park Rotunda.

The ROM’s fine dining restaurant, c5, remains temporarily closed, with the objective to re-open in the new year under a new service provider.  c5 remains available for catered events.

About Druxy’s Famous Deli
Druxy’s was founded in 1976 by Bruce Druxerman with the goal of using the traditional deli format to offer fresh sandwiches, salads, soups, bagels and coffee to office workers in the downtown core of Toronto.  Bruce was joined soon after by brothers Harold and Peter and together they expanded the chain across Southern Ontario to venues that include 10 hospitals and now the ROM.  In 2008, a major step was made to solidify their commitment to healthy eating by being the first chain in Canada to have menu items certified to participate in the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Health Check program.
