About

Discover the themes and subjects of the special exhibition Saints, Sinners, Lovers, and Fools: 300 Years of Flemish Masterworks in a refreshing, new way – through the lens of Flemish music and compositions from the era.

ROM welcomes Diapente Renaissance Vocal Quintet for a special evening of music excellence that takes the audience on a journey into the artistic and economic powerhouse that was 16th century Antwerp. Toronto’s newest renaissance ensemble – and only early music vocal quintet – offers an engaging one-hour program, performed in one of the Museum’s most intimate settings.

Through arrangements that showcase both the music of the period and the quintet’s exquisite sound, the illustrious status of Antwerp is brought to life with music of the successful (though now little-known) composer Noé Faignient, and contemporaries such as Hubert Waelrant and Andreas Pervenage.

The evening’s live performance takes the audience from good times and drinking songs, to haunting motets and epitaphs, to finish with a heartfelt farewell to the city. After the performance, the audience is invited to view the special exhibition.
