Besides post moulds, there are two main features made by Iroquoian peoples and found by archaeologists inside longhouses. These are fire pits or hearths, and storage pits.

Below is an example of a floor plan of an Ontario Iroquoian longhouse. In this plan, the post moulds, hearths and storage pits are shown. Similar to the work of an archaeologist, you will be analyzing this Iroquoian longhouse. Although this floor plan has been made easier to analyze, you will still find it a challenge. The north arrow on the plan will allow us to refer to directions when studying the house.
