Kiron will share activities, easy at-home crafts, behind the scenes anecdotes and fun facts—all connected to the ROM collections.
This time on the ROMKids Show we journey back hundreds of millions of years in time to the beginnings of life on Earth! Educator and science communicator Julie Tomé joins us to talk about where life came from, the fascinating process of evolution, and our upcoming permanent gallery all about the dawn of life! Then we’ll make potato stamp trilobites!
MATERIALS:
A knife is needed to cut your potato, so grab a trusted adult to help with this activity!

- knife or sharp tool
- paint
- paper
1. With your trusted adult, cut your potato in half. Then with a blunt object, indent your design on your potato so you know where to cut. Keep your shape simple—you still have to cut it out! I drew a trilobite.
2. Now it’s time to cut out your shape. I used a butter knife. Make sure your adult is there with you to help. You don’t need to cut up your whole potato, just enough to allow your stamp to work.
3. Once your shape is cut out, paint your shape, and get stamping!
As the ROMKids Coordinator & Camp Director, Kiron is the public face of the Royal Ontario Museum’s family and children’s programs. Kiron started volunteering at the ROM at age 14 and has never looked back. Though he majored in history at York University, Kiron also considers his early years as a ROMKids camper to be a highly formative part of his education. Now, he strives to provide engaging and educational kids’ programming so that future generations can look back on their ROM experiences as fondly as he has.
