Partners in Protection: Parks Canada

Parks Canada logo

The ROM is celebrating Earth Month in April with all things nature through our Partners in Protection: In The Studio program. From wildlife conservation to protected spaces, you can meet local groups who are leaders in conservation during each weekend in April; as well as learn about research and collections at the ROM! Join us, and be inspired by each organization's mission to protect the natural world.

Come and visit Parks Canada on Saturday April 27, and Sunday April 28, 2018 in the Earth Rangers Studio located within the Life in Crisis: Schad Gallery of Biodiversity. Check out some fun and interactive activities such as our Biodiversity Identification table where you can play a game to identify which species are on display. Or you can scroll through the interactive touch screen presentation to hear some wildlife sounds from Rouge National Urban Park! If you would like to get creative, you can hang out at the colouring station and colour our mascot, Parka, doing different activities that YOU could also do at our many National Park sites! We also have the Blanding’s Turtle Exhibit on display so you can learn more about this Species at Risk. Don’t forget to watch some awesome videos on the Blanding’s Turtle from the interactive touch screen tablet too!

Rouge National Urban Park is located in the Greater Toronto Area, and is Canada’s first national urban park. The Rouge protects nature, culture and – for the first time in a Canadian federal park – agriculture, in an integrated way. The national urban park aims to become Canada’s premiere “Learn To” park, as well as a gateway to other Parks Canada sites across the country. Once land assembly is complete, Rouge National Urban Park will be the largest and best protected urban park of its kind in North America. At 79.1 km2, it is 23 times larger than Central Park in New York City and close to 50 times larger than Toronto’s High Park.

*Partners in Protection: In The Studio is a regular event taking place within the Earth Rangers Studio in the Life in Crisis: Schad Gallery of Biodiversity (Level 2). It is an opportunity for organizations interested in biodiversity-, conservation- and sustainability-related issues to connect with visitors at the Royal Ontario Museum through informal presentations, crafts, games, stories, hands-on specimens and/or other activities, suitable for the whole family. Access is free with general admission.
