English Paper Piecing with Carolanne Graham
Sunday, October 20, 2024, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join us for a half-day workshop where we explore the traditional patterning method of English Paper Piecing – a unique technique that uses templates to create spectacular handsewn patchwork creations. Long considered a great way to use left over or unused scraps of fabric, this workshop teaches the basics of English Paper Piecing so participants can create individual complex geometric quilts using just cloth, paper, needle and thread.
Learn how to create and cut templates, baste fabric, and hand-sew sections together to create a finished piece measuring approximately 17 inches. Suitable for beginners, the workshop is led by Carolanne Graham, an experienced instructor, who encourages participants to explore creativity as they develop the skills and confidence to build bigger and more complex projects. All materials for this workshop are inspired by Graham’s locally foraged dye plants and are included with registration.

About English Paper Piecing:
English Paper Piecing (EPP) is a method of patchwork where fabric is carefully basted around paper templates to create precise geometric shapes. These shapes are then hand-sewn together, one by one, forming intricate designs. Once the pieces are stitched on all sides, the paper templates are removed, leaving only your beautifully assembled fabric. Originating in England in the 1770s, English Paper Piecing has endured as a beloved technique for those who appreciate the art of hand sewing. It is a fun and portable project ideal for travelling, commuting or filling any pocket of time.
