Amassing a Collection: Xinjiang and Imperial Court Art

Explore the Chinese collections that will be presented in the new Humboldt Forum in Berlin, in comparison to the ROM’s impressive collection of Chinese objects and architecture. With a special focus on the art and architecture of Xinjiang and imperial court art, this lecture examines how this famous collection was assembled, and affected by Chinese and German history and diplomatic relations.

Prof. Dr Klaas Ruitenbeek is Director of the Berlin Museum of Asian Art. Formerly the Louise Hawley Stone Chair of Far Eastern Art at the Royal Ontario Museum, Dr Ruitenbeek is one of the world's foremost authorities on Chinese art & architecture.
