Jonathon Borland

Meet YPC Member Jonathon Borland

What is your occupation?
I’m relatively new to TD Securities where I support the head of Corporate & Investment Banking, but have been with TD for more than 10 years.

What was the last book you read?
I’m currently re-reading one of my favourite Haruki Murakami books—Norwegian Wood. I got hooked on Murakami in high school; he’s an incredible author.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Anything composed or written by Burt Bacharach with specific fondness for The Look of Love.

Where is your favourite place in the world?
That would be a tie between the family cottage on Six Mile Lake and Tokyo (sensing a theme?).

Why did you join YPC?
My maternal grandmother always treasured and supported the ROM. I’d like to think I’m continuing the tradition.

What do you like best about being a Young Patron of the ROM?
Exclusive previews to new exhibitions.

Describe the ROM in one word.
Wonder.

Tell us one of your favourite ROM memories.
A few years back I attended a talk by Dr. Jane Goodall—that really stands out.

What do you love most about the ROM?
No matter how many times I visit, there’s always something new to see and experience.

If you could have anything from the ROM’s collections, what would you choose?
I wouldn’t want to permanently take anything—the treasures should be for all to enjoy! But if I were to ‘borrow’ something, I’d be satisfied with any artifact from the Egyptian collection.
