Kristy Van Hoven

Meet YPC Member Kristy Van Hoven

What is your occupation?
Founding Director, Guthrie School of Dance & part of your favourite ROM Patron Team.

What was the last book you read?
Tough one… does the Journal of Palliative Care count? If not, sadly it was I’m a Highland Dancer story book with my 3-year-old dancers.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Disturbed or Mike Massé’s cover of Sound of Silence.

Where is your favourite place in the world?
Machu Picchu, just before dawn, if only they needed a curator...

Why did you join YPC?
What better way to support the ROM and my curatorial and education colleagues?

What do you like best about being a Young Patron of the ROM?
Being new(ish) to Canada, I get to meet a lot of great people and have lots of great discussions over coffee, and most importantly make fantastic new friends!

Describe the ROM in one word.
Magical.

Tell us one of your favourite ROM memories.
Meeting my hubby and getting to work with him everyday probably takes the cake on that one.

What do you love most about the ROM?
The atmosphere, the building oozes excitement and wonder. It’s infectious in all the right ways.

If you could have anything from the ROM’s collections, what would you choose?
One of Georgia Guenther’s models. She is the ROM’s Senior Artist and beautifully creates the in-house reproductions of artifacts and specimens that we see in the galleries.
