Assistant Vice-President, Public Relations & Publications

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is Canada’s pre-eminent museum of world cultures and natural history. We have an opening for a dynamic individual to fill the role of Assistant V.P., Public Relations & Publications.

You are a strong strategic thinker and planner with superior writing skills and a proven ability to prepare and implement communications and media relations programs for cultural institutions. As the Assistant V.P. Public Relations & Publications, you will develop and direct the Museum’s corporate communications initiatives, including media relations, and oversee, in collaboration with the Museum’s Publications Committee, the ROM’s publication program – from books to online material.

 You possess 5 or more years in a senior communications/publications capacity which have involved direct responsibility for developing and implementing communication strategies for internal and external audiences, and directing publications, books and/or magazines.  You are familiar with cultural organizations and the issues facing public institutions.  You know how to build consensus, work with senior executives and government, from provincial ministry communications staff to elected officials, and navigate the complexities and information needs of a multi-stakeholder environment. 

You have a degree (post-graduate preferred) in Journalism, Public Affairs, Communications or equivalent, and a background in staff, budget and project management, and publication design, editing, production and distribution.
