Travelling Planetarium

A view from inside the Travelling Planetarium

Discover the wonders of the universe in the Royal Ontario Museum's Travelling Planetarium!

Entrance to the Travelling PlanetariumAn exciting way to teach people about the universe in a unique learning environment, Travelling Planetarium programming is inter-disciplinary, fun, and relevant to the Ontario curriculum.

The Travelling Planetarium is an inflatable dome with a projector that recreates the night sky. A powerful fan inflates and circulates air throughout the dome to maintain a comfortable temperature with very good air-flow.The dome is bottomless, so an emergency evacuation of the planetarium is extremely easy and fast. The projector can be turned to show stars throughout the various seasons or switched to show pictures of constellations from Greek mythology.

Depending on the dome selected, between 25 - 50 students can participate at once. Participants enter the dome through an inflated tunnel and sit around a central 360o projector to experience the stars and constellations surrounding them.

The Travelling Planetarium can travel to your location anywhere in Ontario. Programs are designed to accommodate educational venues such as schools, community centres, museums, libraries, and parks (which have an indoor space). When not in use, the dome can be packed inside a large bag.
