Photo from www.trendsmap.com of #MuseumSelfie trending internationally
Yesterday we took part in an international tweet up called #MuseumSelfie day. The event was started by Mar Dixon (@mardixon) via her blog, Culture Themes (@CultureThemes). Mar says that, "CultureThemes is a monthly hashtag I help organize on Twitter (we’ll be 3 in March). The idea behind CultureThemes is to have a positive event once a month on Twitter to highlight the fun and ‘unstuffiness’ of museums/culture. Previous tags included: #WhyILoveMuseums, #MusSocks, #MusMovember, and support #AskACurator day."

This is something I can get behind and we weren't alone. Museums around the world took part and the result was amazing. Almost 6,000 photos were shared (you can see them all here via our friends at Sharypic) and the hashtag trended internationally for more than 24 hours. I know that visitors to the museum love to take photos in the galleries and I have tried to activate this in the past with #instaROM tours and other initiatives but this event is on a whole different level. Over the day, @ROMtoronto shared 100 tweets, mostly retweeting the photos that people shared with us but also creating our own Museum Selfies. We enaged with people and museums in Europe and across North America which is why we take part in these events. As Mar said, to highlight the fun and 'unstuffiness' of museums. Below, I have gathered the best shots and want to thank everyone for participating, especially our staff! As always, if you guys have any questions or want to know more you can reach me on twitter (@wrdodger) or via my staff page.
