Preserving Your Collection - Workshop

Ever wonder which wall is the best wall to hang a painting?  Should a silver tea set be washed in the sink?

Take a peak behind the curatorial curtain with ROM conservation experts who will focus on art and artifacts commonly found in your collection.  Bring a photo or a question about your most treasured piece for some tailored advice from our conservation professionals!

Led by Senior Conservators Helen Coxon and Heidi Sobol.

The May workshop will be an overview of the risks to collectibles in the home environment with a focus of paintings on canvas and panel.

Helen Coxon - Senior Conservator at the ROMHelen Coxon moved into objects conservation when she joined the staff of the ROM in 1987 to work on the conservation of arms and armour for the new European Gallery.  After many years of increasing involvement with environmental control and materials testing, she became the ROM’s first Preventive Conservation specialist in 2006.

Heidi Sobol - Senior Conservator at the ROM, Paintings

As the senior conservator of paintings, Heidi Sobol is responsible for the paintings at the ROM - whether they are constructed on flexible or rigid supports. The flexible supports are artworks like the paintings displayed in the Sigmund Samuel Gallery of Canada or the Canada's First Peoples Gallery.
