Earth Sciences Weekend, May 18, 19, 20, 2013

Amethyst Crystals

Our world to discover! The Earth gives us so much every day! Nearly every material we touch is a product of the Earth, and if it isn’t grown, it is mined. Have a look at some of the minerals of every day life, and then try and guess what these minerals do and where you find them in the world around you.

Program Schedule

11 am - 3 pm

Earth Sciences Activity Zone (Currelly Gallery, Level 1)
Hands-on crafts and activities for kids! Make your own space ship, start your own rock collection and more!

  • Design and build a Space Ship out of everyday materials and start planning your own trip to space!
  • Create a constellation that will shine in the night sky! Take inspiration from constellations like Orion or Ursa Major or even design your own.
  • See what the earth once looked like in the time before dinosaurs and see how different it looks today at our plate tectonics puzzle station!
  • Start your own rock collection with extra specimens from the Museum's own Mineralogy collection. Learn how Earth Sciences staff collect and catalogue rocks!
