The Roloff Beny Gallery is the main exhibition space for ROM Contemporary Culture. Perched dramatically at the top of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, this large (approximately 6000 sq. feet) multimedia gallery is among the ROM’s most dramatic rooms. With geometric angled walls, a soaring ceiling height of more than 35 feet and a triangular floor plan, the Roloff Beny Gallery is one of Canada’s most memorable spaces for the display of contemporary art, photography, architecture and design from around the world.
Roloff Beny (1924-1984) was an internationally known Canadian photographer. His works are included in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, as well as the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario. A member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Beny was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1972.
