Tactile Tours

Explore your Senses: Engage the World

Every third Thursday of the month tactile tours, led by Museum Docents, allow visitors who are blind or have vision loss to explore objects from the ROM’s World Cultures and Natural History galleries. In cooperation with the Museum’s curators and conservators the tours have been developed to enable visitors with disabilities meaningful interaction with the Museum’s collections, allowing them to touch real artifacts as well as scale reproductions. Tactile tour books, featuring Braille and raised-line drawings, also supplement the tour. The 45 to 60 minute tours are free with general Museum admission and can be reserved by calling 416.586.5823.

Due to the vulnerability of the artifacts and to ensure that participants have ample time to experience them, tours are limited to six (6) people.

The first of a series of tours, Touch the Orient: Engage China, is now available.

Touch the Orient: Engage China
Offered every third Thursday of the month, this guided Tactile Tour explores the ROM’s iconic Ming Tomb through real artifacts and tactile-scaled reproductions from the ROM’s Chinese galleries.
