Fact? or Fiction? – October, Annual
Fact or Fiction Logo

Fact? or Fiction? is the Royal Ontario Museum’s longest running fundraising event. Grazing on gourmet food, hundreds of guests play a trademarked guessing game for fabulous prizes, matching wits with ROM curators to decipher the true nature of 20 mysterious objects from the ROM’s vaults. The ROM is the largest field research museum in Canada and this event is a major source of funding for the ROM Research Endowment Fund, which supports curatorial research here and around the globe in more than 50 countries.

Material Ball – November, every other year
Material Ball Logo

Material Ball was launched in 2002 to open the ROM’s own exhibition, Elite Elegance: Couture Fashion in the 1950’s, and so successful it was brought back again in 2004 to launch a special Pearls exhibition. Material Ball went on hiatus during the Renaissance ROM campaign and the building of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, but came back with a vengeance in 2008! Themed around the special exhibition “The Nature of Diamonds,” and featuring a fashion show by designer GIAMBATTISTA VALLI, Material Ball 2008 was the most successful edition to date. This is a sophisticated evening, with gracious seating and decor, tasteful entertainment and a stylish fashion show. Proceeds go to support textiles and costume priorities of the Royal Ontario Museum.
