Gift of RRSP, RRIF or Pension Plan: Jean Read

The following is the story of a retirement gift made by Jean Read, ROM Honorary Trustee and Chair of the Currelly Society Executive Committee.

"I've been involved with the ROM for many years and am currently Chair of the Currelly Society Executive Committee. The Museum has been an important part of my life for so long, and to honour this, I wanted to make a gift to the ROM as part of my estate plans. I decided that the best course for me would be to name the Museum as a beneficiary of my retirement funds. This way a future gift does not interfere with my day to day needs. Fortunately, tax changes now permit charities to receipt the estate when a plan names a charity as a direct beneficiary. These tax receipts will benefit my Estate, by reducing the amount of tax payable on my final income tax return."
