Bequests: Alexander Cambell Leckie
Alexander Cambell Leckie, born and raised in Hamilton, had a passion for the ROM that lasted his whole life. Suffering from poor health throughout his childhood, he made frequent trips to doctors in Toronto. After numerous appointments, he was rewarded with a visit to the ROM. He was particularly fond of Ancient Mesopotamia where he was drawn to the Sumerian Lion and the Tree of Knowledge. He was a regular visitor until his death in 2004. Though wishing to remain anonymous during his lifetime, several years ago Mr. Leckie contacted the ROM through his lawyer for appropriate bequest wording to ensure his gift would support the ROM’s work around Ancient Mesopotamia. We are pleased to report the ROM is using Mr. Leckie’s gift to support the new Wirth Gallery of the Middle East which will be on level 3 of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, ensuring that his legacy and fascination of the area continue to be made available for future generations.
