Bust of Cleopatra
Bust of Cleopatra, from a bust in the Royal Ontario Museum, 910.75, Egypt, 51-30 BC.
This sculpture was originally thought to have represented the Ptolemaic Period (304-180 BC).
Recent scholarship has identified it as an idealized portrait of Cleopatra VII who ruled Egypt 51-30 BC. She is renowned for her liaison with Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony and has been the subject of much study. Popular stories of her seductive powers abound, overshadowing scholarly studies which show her as a brilliant ruler, albeit the one whose fate ended Egypt's 3000 years of pharaonic history.
This reproduction is made of durastone, a gypsum composition. For indoors only. Outdoor version available by special order.
