Maple Leaf and Beaver Glasses and Gifts

Pewter decoration adapted from a cast iron cover plate for a stovepipe hole with beaver and maple leaf decorative motif. Probably Ontario, ca.1880-1890.

Household heating stoves and pipes were usually dismantled and removed for the summer months. The hole left by the stove pipe was covered by a decorative tin or iron plate made for this purpose.
