School Visits

Policies

Supervision of Students
For the security, safety and enjoyment of all our school visitors, supervisors must remain with students of all ages at all times. The student/supervisor ratio must meet your school or Board's guidelines for out-of-classroom visits.

Supervisors are responsible for their students' behaviour. We request that you review the Rules of Conduct (PDF) with your class before your visit. You will receive the policy with your reservation. Quiet voices, no running, and no food, drink or chewing gum is permitted in our galleries. Self-guided groups may be asked to leave galleries where conducted lessons are in progress.

Cancellations
Cancellations must be made in writing or by the electronic cancellation system if you booked online. Cancellations without written notice of at least 10 business days will result in a cancellation fee equivalent to the 15 student minimum charge. Inclement weather is exempt.

Failure to confirm your visit does not constitute a cancellation.

Reservation Changes
All reservation changes must be made in writing at least than 10 business days prior to your scheduled visit. Any requests for changes within that 10 day period cannot be accommodated.

Teacher Previews
The Royal Ontario Museum no longer provides free admission to teachers who present an OTC card. However, all teachers who have booked a School Visit may present their confirmation sheet (a document sent to teachers which outlines the details of their booking) along with teacher identification (preferably an OTC card) for one free admission to the museum. The free preview must take place before the date of the school visit. Previews do not include guest privileges.

ROM Memberships
ROM Memberships do not apply to participating students in school programs. They do apply to any supervisors accompanying the group.

Lunch Arrangements
Lunch space must be reserved for brown bag lunches. Space is limited and we urge you to book early.

Belongings
Large backpacks are not allowed in the galleries. A limited number of coat racks are available to school groups for storing jackets, backpacks, lunches, etc. These are not secure and visitors are encouraged to leave valuables at home. The Royal Ontario Museum is not responsible for lost belongings.
