We have recently announced price reductions for admission fees for the permanent galleries at the ROM. You may wonder what we have done to similarly support educators and our school visits program. We currently have a self-guided school visit that costs $8 per student. These visits are approximately 40% less than the new student general admission of $13.50 between the ages of 15 - 25, and 34% less than $12 price for children between 4 - 14.
In addition, the ROM also offers a range of conducted programs that use ROM teaching staff. As a not-for-profit institution we are dedicated to keeping these programs as affordable as possible. The facilitated courses that are conducted in our labs and classrooms are priced at $12 and $16, and offer students an unique opportunity to handle real specimens and artifacts in context of curriculum-based subjects. The prices reflect the costs involved with using ROM staff dedicated to these programs. Any reduction in price would mean a reduction in the quality of our offer.
The ROM education department is currently developing a new strategic plan that will create a range of new curriculum-based educational opportunities for schools. These include a virtual visit program and a program where ROM teachers bring ROM artifacts and specimens directly into schools. In addition, we are developing a new ROM educational web portal that will provide a range of teaching tools and resources that will enable teachers to get most out of a school visit to the Museum. We look forward to working with you on all of the initiatives above in the coming year.
