Fashion

Fashion

Explore the origins of fashion and discuss the psychological, sociological and cultural attitudes towards clothing and beauty in both the Lab and galleries. In the Lab, students study primarily 20th century garments, accessories and textiles that illustrate how clothing styles, textiles and silhouette communicate different cultural attitudes over time. The gallery portion could include a variety of cultures such as Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Japan and Inuit . Discussions include the psychological, sociological and cultural attitudes towards clothing and beauty. This program is specifically recommended for students interested in fashion design or fashion and creative expression. Do not combine with Fashion & Family: A Cultural Expression due to similar content.

If you would like this program to be customized to your needs, please provide a detailed description in the "Additional Information" field during the checkout process.  A ROM staff member will contact you to discuss your request.  If you have any questions about the lesson content due to the textile and costume gallery rotation please contact us.

Maximum 60 people (including students, teachers, educational assistants and supervisors) at one time.

Availability subject to change.

Please note that the Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles and Costume will be closed from January 25 to May 8, 2015 for a gallery rotation.
