Fashion

Fashion

Explore the origins of fashion and discuss the psychological, sociological and cultural attitudes towards clothing and beauty in both the Lab and galleries. In the Lab, students study primarily 20th century garments, accessories and textiles that illustrate how clothing styles, textiles and silhouette communicate different cultural attitudes over time. The gallery portion will look at the !Viva Mexico! exhibition on until May 23, 2016 in the Patricia Harris Gallery of  Costume & Textiles.  This exhibit focuses on the traditional weaving techniques and contemporary ensembles of Mexico that owe their vitality to the fusion of traditions, cultures and technologies over Mexico’s history. This program is specifically recommended for students interested in fashion design or fashion and creative expression. Do not combine with Fashion & Family: A Cultural Expression due to similar content.

If you would like this program to be customized to your needs, please provide a detailed description in the "Additional Information" field during the checkout process.  A ROM staff member will contact you to discuss your request.  If you have any questions about the lesson content due to the textile and costume gallery rotation please contact us.

Maximum 60 people (including students, teachers, educational assistants and supervisors) at one time.
