Fashion HNL20, HNC3C, HNB4M

Grades : Grade 11Grade 12

Explore the evolution of fashion and discuss the psychological, sociological, and cultural attitudes toward clothing in both the lab and galleries. In the lab, students study primarily 20th century garments and accessories that illustrate how clothing styles, textiles & silhouette communicate different cultural attitudes over time.  The gallery portion could visit some of the following galleries, Galleries of Africa: Egypt, Gallery of Greece, Eaton Gallery of Rome, Samuel European Galleries, Shreyas and Mina Ajmera Gallery of Africa, The Americas, and Asia-Pacific, Daphne Cockwell Gallery of Canada: First Peoples, Prince Takamado Gallery of Japan, and the Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles & Costume.
Art, Honour, and Ridicule: Asafo Flags from Southern Ghana is currently on display in the Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles & Costume until March 2017. This exhibit takes a historical and contemporary look at Asafo flags which are the insignia created for the numerous military Asafo companies of the Fante states along the coast of Southern Ghana. Historically, Asafo companies were in charge of the safety and protection of the local community as well as warfare. Today they act as the vibrant core of local communities.
