Biodiversity of Vertebrate Animals

Biodiversity of Vertebrate Animals

Vertebrate animals make up only four percent of known animal species, but are immensely popular with students. In this lesson students will examine and classify real specimens from five vertebrate classes and compare their appearance, growth, and life cycles. In the Schad Gallery of Biodiversity students will discover how vertebrate animals have adapted to a wide variety of habitats and assess human impacts such as climate change on vertebrate biodiversity.

Curriculum links: assess human impacts on biodiversity, and identify ways of preserving biodiversity; investigate the characteristics of living things, and classify diverse organisms according to specific characteristics; demonstrate an understanding of biodiversity, its contributions to the stability of natural systems, and its benefits to humans.

Do not combine with the topic Biodiversity or Prehistoric Biodiversity due to similar content.
