First Nations and Europeans in New France & Early Canada

Explore the main features of the communities of First Peoples in Canada through the ROM collections. Learn about the interactions with European settlers and investigate the early development of New France. In the hands-on lab, students investigate authentic objects from First Nations peoples of the Eastern Woodlands & the Great Lakes and the Eastern Subarctic. Other themes such as archaeology, fur trade and early settlements in New France are examined. The gallery component of the lesson includes a visit to the Daphne Cockwell Gallery of Canada: First Peoples and the Sigmund Samuel Gallery of Canada.
