1. Can I book a school visit over the phone?
Booking online helps to ensure that all of the required booking information is accurately communicated to the Museum, as it is inputted directly by you. However, if you are having difficulty applying on our website, please call 416.586.5801 x 1 for assistance, or to learn more about about booking your visit online.
2. I sent in my application. What happens now?
Immediately after you submit your application, an Order Receipt Confirmation will appear on the screen. If not, please look for any highlighted errors on the form, correct the errors and press submit again. You will also receive an Order Receipt Confirmation by e-mail from email@example.com. Our staff will then determine if your request is possible and contact you by e-mail. Please check your junk or spam folder if you do not receive the e-mail.
After you receive your reservation, review it carefully to ensure that the information is correct. A response to either confirm or cancel the visit is required. Please select “Confirm”, “Cancel” or “Change” to the question "Do you accept this booking" at the bottom of the reservation.
Cancellations must be received 10 business days in advance of your scheduled visit or a cancellation fee will apply. Failure to confirm your reservation is not considered a cancellation.
3. Where can I park?
Cars: To avoid a parking infraction please use designated parking zones.
Buses: School and coach buses may use the lay-by area located on Queen's Park at Bloor St for pick-up and drop-off purposes only. Parked buses will be ticketed as per the City of Toronto's parking by-laws. Please refer to the City of Toronto website for information about free on-street Bus Parking locations and conditions
4. What time are your lessons offered?
Morning lessons run any time between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm. The latest a morning lesson can start is 10:30 a.m. Afternoon lessons run any time between 12:30 pm and 4:30 pm. The latest an afternoon lesson can start is 3:00 p.m. Groups may stay after their lesson(s) at no extra charge until the museum closes (5:20 p.m.) For more information please review a typical day at the Museum.
5. How long are the programs?
All programs are 60 to 90 minutes long unless otherwise noted in the program description. Please browse our lessons for more information.
6. If I have more than one group, can they do different topics?
Yes. If you are requesting more than one topic, please indicate the number of students and grade level per topic in the Additional Information box.
7. Do I have to pay extra for a self-guided visit if I'm booked for a lesson?
No. If you have booked a lesson, a self-guided visit is included in the price.
8. Where can I find the application form?
Once you have selected the lessons you would like to book, click “Checkout” (upper right corner of the screen). You will be guided to an electronic application form you can complete and submit online.
9. What are the closest public transportation stops?
The closest subway stop is Museum, on the Yonge-University-Spadina Line. St. George is the closest subway stop on the Bloor-Danforth Line. For more information please see parking and directions.
10. Can I bring my backpack or large bag into the museum galleries?
Large bags and backpacks are not permitted in the exhibits or in our labs for security reasons. Many of the objects in the Museum are fragile and irreplaceable.
11. Can one of my classes have a guided lesson while the other class views the exhibits independently?
Yes, separate classes can be booked into self-guided or conducted lessons. All classes from a school do not have to take the same program.
12. Can ROM memberships be used towards Education programs?
Memberships cannot be used to cover conducted programs guided by Museum staff. They can be used for students and/or supervisors visiting the museum for self-guided visits booked through the Education department.
13. What if we're late?
If your group is late, your program will be shortened to finish at the originally designated time. Programs for groups more than thirty minutes late will be canceled.
14. What's your cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be e-mailed at least 10 business days before scheduled visit to firstname.lastname@example.org. Cancellations received after this period will be charged a cancellation fee equivalent to the 15 student minimum charge per group.
15. Is the ROM accessible to groups with different abilities?
The ROM recognizes the diversity of our visitors’ abilities and needs, and we offer a variety of programs and services to ensure the accessibility of the Museum and its collections.
16. Do I have to have a minimum number of people to book a school visit?
A minimum charge for 15 people (students and adults combined) is applied to all programs led by Museum staff. The minimum charge for self-guided visits is for 10 people (students and adults combined). These minimums are waived for students with special needs.
